If I ask you to name at least 5 of your listeners, would you be able to do that?
90% of podcasters might know who their listeners are!
But I know around 6000 of them who have listened to my podcast and I can talk to them whenever I want.
That’s the power of building an email list.
In this episode I won’t be talking about how to build an email list but I will give you some ideas for the core of building an email list.
What is it?
They are called lead magnets!
And I am going to share 10 easy lead magnet ideas for podcasters like you.
So if you know anything about list building, then you would know the importance of a lead magnet.
A lead magnet is basically a freebie that you can use to get your listeners to sign up to your list.
How the process flow works is –
- You give your listeners a link to signup to receive the freebie
- Your listener signs up to the list using their name and email address
- An automated email delivers the freebie to the listener
If you look at the flow, you will realize that there are 2 other very important pieces in this puzzle. And they are –
- an optin form or, the page where the listener can sign up by entering their email address. I recommend using Thrive Leads or, Optin Monster for this, if you already have a website for your podcast
- an email delivery service which is also called as an autoresponder. This service is what will automatically deliver the freebie to your listener and also help you with regular engagement and interaction with them. I would recommend Aweber or, Convertkit, both of which are equally good. Aweber is a little easy to use in comparison that of Convertkit.
If you don’t have a website, then you can use your autoresponder to create the optin form.. all of this is something I will discuss in another episode.
So, for this episode, we are going to be looking at 10 lead magnet ideas that you can use for building your email list –
Easy Lead Magnet Ideas for Podcasters:
Before we look at the ideas, there are a few things that you might want to keep in mind when putting together a lead magnet, in order for it to be effective –
- It should be valuable enough for the listener to give out their email address.
- It should be easy to create for you and easy to consume for your listeners
- It should relate to the content that your listener is consuming, which is when the conversions will be the best.
With that out of the way, let us now look at the lead magnet ideas:
Exclusive Episodes
You can offer special episodes that aren’t available to the general public, perhaps deep dives into popular topics, behind-the-scenes content, or interviews with special guests.
These can make your audience feel part of an exclusive club.
This was one of the first lead magnets I used in my podcast – affiliate marketing simplified. And the conversions were really amazing.
Episode Transcripts
You can also provide detailed transcripts of your episodes.
This not only caters to those who prefer reading over listening but also makes your content accessible to a broader audience, including those with hearing impairments.
I have tried this and it works really well.
Episode Guides or Summaries
Create concise, actionable summaries of your episodes with key takeaways, additional resources, and related links.
This can be a quick reference for listeners who want to revisit the highlights without re-listening to the entire episode.
Another thing I tried and have seen converting really well is an extended version of a particular podcast episode.
How this works is, you create an episode which requires actionable tips or, guidelines and offer them as a document to your subscribers.
You can see this in work at my website dkspeaks.com. I will leave a link in the show notes.
Checklists or Action Plans
Based on the advice or tips shared in your episodes, offer practical checklists or action plans.
For example, a podcast on health and fitness could offer a workout checklist or a meal prep action plan.
eBooks or Whitepapers
Compile your podcast content into an eBook or whitepaper, especially if your episodes follow a thematic series.
This can provide value by organizing your content into an easy-to-digest format.
Exclusive Interviews or Q&A Sessions
Offer recordings or transcripts of exclusive interviews with experts or Q&A sessions where you answer listener questions.
This content can provide additional value and insights to your subscribers.
Early Access or Previews
Give your email subscribers early access to upcoming episodes or exclusive previews of future content. This creates anticipation and gives them a reason to stay subscribed.
Access to a Private Community
Create a private group or forum where subscribers can discuss episodes, share insights, and connect with each other.
This fosters a sense of community and belonging and can also help with engagement from your audience.
Templates or Tools
Share useful templates, tools, or resources that complement your podcast topics. For example, if your podcast is about productivity, you could offer a time management template or a goal-setting worksheet.
Audio Courses or Workshops
Develop a short audio course or workshop series that delves deeper into subjects covered in your podcast. This can be an excellent way to provide additional education and value to your audience.
Implementing Your Lead Magnet
Remember, the key to a successful lead magnet is its relevancy with your pitch and the value it offers.
Choose ideas that resonate with your podcast’s theme and audience interests.
And if you pitching a different lead magnet in different episodes, use one that goes along with the topic of the episode.
Make sure to communicate clearly the benefit of subscribing and what they’ll gain in exchange for their email address.
That’s how you will be able to get better conversions from your lead magnets.
Conclusion
Building an email list is crucial for podcast growth, and with these lead magnet ideas, you can attract and retain listeners by offering them real value.
Each of these ideas ties back to your podcast content, ensuring coherence and relevance.
Now, it’s your turn to put these ideas into action and watch your listener community flourish!
