How to embed a podcast episode on a wordpress website?

And do you really need to do that?

Before I answer that question, let me ask you a few questions.

What link do you share when promoting your podcast, especially on social media sites – a link to your podcast host where you episode is hosted, or to a listening app like Spotify or, Apple podcasts?

Know what’s the problem with that approach?

You are generating traffic to those platforms who will then sell ads on your show and pay you pennies.

What if you could use all of that traffic and build your list and make money?

That’s what we will discuss in this episode!

Embed a Podcast Episode

Most podcasters share a link to a listening app when promoting their podcasts.

But something that they don’t realize is, in doing that they are generating traffic to the likes of Spotify and Apple podcasts.

Why do that?

Why not use that traffic for yourself by diverting them to your website?

There are quite a few advantages of directing your prospective listeners to your website.

1. Firstly it will help you give them an option of either listening to the episode on your website on an embedded player or, on any of their favorite listening app. You are not forcing them to pick one or the other app.
2. Secondly you have an opportunity of using that traffic to build your email list. You can then use this email list to get repeat listeners and to even make money from promoting products and services.
3. And finally, it gives you a better opportunity to engage with your listeners. They can comment on the post, ask questions and engage with you. You can also offer them with content upgrades and build trust with your audience.

Now in order to benefit from all of these, you will need to embed a podcast episode player on your website.

But that is only if you have a website for your podcast.

And it is hence that I recommend that you have a website for your podcast. And when you are creating one, use WordPress to create the website.

How to Embed a Podcast Episode on a WordPress website?

Embedding your podcast episodes on your website gives you the opportunity to keep your visitors on your website while giving them the opportunity to listen to your show without leaving your site.

It can also help you increase your listenership, engagement, and conversions.

But how to embed a podcast episode on a wordpress website?

What are the best practices and tools to do it?

What is the best podcast player for embedding a podcast episode?

Now, there are different ways to embed a podcast episode on your website, but not all of them are equally effective.

In this episode, I will compare two methods of embedding a podcast episode on your website:

1. the traditional method of using the embed code from your podcast hosting company,
2. and the modern method of using a WordPress plugin called Fusebox.

Using the Embed Code from Your Podcast Host

Let’s start with the traditional method of using the embed code from your podcast hosting company.

This is the most common way to embed a podcast episode on your website, and it is also the easiest one.

All you have to do is copy the embed code from your podcast hosting company and paste it on your website where you want the podcast player to appear.

However, this method has some limitations and drawbacks that you should be aware of.

Drawbacks:

First of all, the embed code from your podcast hosting company may not be compatible with your website theme or design. It may look out of place, or it may not work properly on different devices and browsers.

Second, the embed code from your podcast hosting company may not have all the features and functionalities that you need to provide a great listening experience for your audience.

For example, it may not have a subscribe button, a download button, a share button, or a speed control option.

Third, the embed code from your podcast hosting company may not be optimized for SEO or analytics. It may not have the proper metadata, schema, or tracking code to help you rank higher on search engines and measure your podcast performance.

That’s why I don’t recommend using the traditional method of using the embed code from your podcast hosting company to embed a podcast episode on your website.

Instead, I recommend using the modern method of using a WordPress plugin called Fusebox.

Drawbacks:

So what are the drawbacks of using Fusebox.

There is nothing that is really a drawback except for one.

And that is something you might face if you are hosted with a third party hosting company and you are scheduling your episodes in advance.

How Fusebox works is, it takes the RSS feed and pulls the data for the episodes from there.

When you are scheduling an episode, the data from the feed won’t flow into Fusebox till the time your episode is published.

Which means that you will not get the embed code for your episode before your episode gets published.

I have faced this issue multiple times and the work-around I do is to go ahead and update the embed code once the episode gets published. This isn’t too much of a hassle.

The other option you have is to upgrade to the PRO plan. That gives you a host of features including podcast hosting.

That would mean that your embed code and your hosting, both are with the same company.

So why not upgrade to the PRO plan!
